SHE Celebrates American Thanksgiving

With a World Race team, an English teacher, and a missionary all from the U.S. gathered at SHE this week, naturally we celebrated the American Thanksgiving holiday.

The morning devotion began our focus of being thankful today. We are all thankful for life and the many blessings we have.

The pumpkin.
The center smelled lusciously of pumpkin all throughout the day. Homemade pumpkin lattes, pumpkin pancakes, pumpkin crepes, roasted pumpkin seeds, and pumpkin custard were just a few of the delectable treats we enjoyed. [The Thai women learned how to make these pumpkin concoctions and copied the recipes for future SHE celebrations].

One of the Thai women tried to convince the others that the food was "not delicious" so that more would be left over for her to eat.

Crepes

Christmas songs filled the air reminding us that the holiday season has begun, and we can be very thankful for our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Introducing SHE Thailand!

Started in 2006, SHE (Self Help and Empowerment) is a Christian charity committed to helping women and children at risk in Thailand, many of whom are trapped in the commercial sex trade. SHE is dedicated to providing employment, vocational training and counseling for women who want to help themselves out of this industry. All proceeds go directly to helping them find employment, community, friendship, restoration, and above all restoration of their own value.

Mark and Sharon Biddell are visionaries from the UK. They, along with their four children moved to Thailand to begin and run SHE. Through SHE, the women are able to have a salaried job making jewelry or baking at the SHE center. Housing, meals, childcare, and English lessons are also available.

Recently, SHE has begun a hotel/hospitality training program.

SHE offers so much more than just job training and English lessons. SHE offers community, friendship, empowerment, love justice, and HOPE.

SHE days begin with a morning devotion time. For the rest of the day, the women go about their daily jobs at the center. Weekly Bible studies are also offered.

Teams from all over the world partner with SHE. Visiting teams have the chance to work alongside of the women at the center during the daytime. They spend most nights building relationships with women working in the hundreds of bars in Phuket, Thailand. Once a relationship is established after a few visits, teams share the vision of SHE with the women and let them know that there is a way out.

SHE is expanding its walls right now. Land for a new training center and staff housing has been purchased, and building will begin in the next few months.
